Christmas Thrift Finds

I was able to get out over the weekend. It was a busy weekend. My Dad had to have open heart surgery on Friday. My Mom, my Brother and I were at the hospital all day. Every thing went really well. We're lucky he's super healthy and had no symptoms. He just went in for a yearly exam and the Dr. recommended that he have a stress test. So he did and that's where they found out that he had 5 blocked arteries. But he's all fixed now and might even be able to come home tomorrow. Medicine these days... amazing.

Anyway... here are my finds from the weekend. One of my favorite thrift shops opened their "christmas boutique" for the year, and I was so excited. Some of the prices were a little higher than normal, but I love everything I found.

Shiny Brites, old ribbon, vintage kitchen towels, Hallmark party invites, and napkins and a plastic creche (to add to my collection)

Awesome gold deer (don't know if they are old or not), another plastic creche, some stenciled shiny brights and plastic cookie trays

Oh yeah... and another great tinsel tree.

March of the Tools Tuesday tip re-do

This Tuesday's tip is...
Using a 1" flat iron (made for your hair) to iron ribbon.

I use ribbon a lot in my crafting and it is stored in cardboard cards in a Prism Box, so when it comes to using it, it is wrinkled more often than not.


I found that it is a lot quicker to heat up my flat iron than the full size iron.
The ribbon MUST NOT contain any plastic (should be silk, cotton, twill or something natural).




Your iron should be on a medium setting. And you need to clamp it quite tightly while you slowly pull your ribbon through it. A thicker ribbon might take a couple of times to iron, but it is a lot easier to pull it through, than getting out the ironing board and iron.

Shabby Chic Pennants

Have you seen these great pennants/flags/buntings that I have up for sale on my Etsy site? I coordinate great fabrics and make these pennants that can be hung anywhere. Most pennants you find on Etsy are paper... but mine are fabric and will last forever! Right now they are pretty girly, but I plan on making ones that are more boy like (with denim, and bright colors). Or ones that are more general and say Happy Birthday or Celebrate. (Let me know if this is something you'd like to see).
